OSCE Yerevan Office helps train journalists on covering judicial cases, procedures

The judicial system and procedures, issues related to judicial independence were the focus of a training seminar organized for media representatives from 15 to 16 February 2014 in Aghveran with the support of the OSCE Office in Yerevan.
The goal of the training was to promote transparency of the judicial system in Armenia through professional reporting. Some 25 journalists took part in the seminar to enhance their knowledge of the judicial system and procedures.
Representatives of Armenia’s Judicial Department and a judge from the Court of Appeal spoke about the regulatory framework, the Council of Justice and its disciplinary committee, the Union of Judges, and issues related to judicial accountability.
The training participants looked at the specifics of professional media coverage of the judiciary, ways to better present the work of courts to the public, challenges in covering judicial cases and in fostering public trust in courts.
The event is a part of the OSCE Office’s efforts to promote judicial independence in Armenia.
