OSCE donates equipment to Armavir region Crisis Management Centre in Armenia
Andrey Sorokin, the Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan, donated equipment to the Armavir Crisis Management Centre of the Armenian Ministry of Territorial Administration and Emergency Situations on 14 December 2015, with the aim of strengthening the Ministry’s capacities to safeguard people and the environment.
On behalf of the Ministry, First Deputy Minister Vache Terteryan received eight displays which will be used to screen data received from radiolocation stations, for the monitoring of hydro-meteorological conditions and emergency situations as well as seismic phenomena. This will improve the Ministry’s ability in Armavir region to prevent, monitor and respond to emergency cases.
In August 2015, the OSCE Office in Yerevan donated monitoring equipment to the Armenian Hydro-Meteorological Service.
The equipment was donated as part of a project implemented jointly by the OSCE Office in Yerevan and the Office of the Coordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities (OCEEA), in close collaboration with the Germany-based Global Fire Monitoring Centre and the Canadian Forest Service. The system is used to effectively manage wildfires at the national and local levels. It enhances fire prevention, detection and suppression plans and provides early warning of dangerous fires.
