OSCE Secretary General addresses Italian Parliament
OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier spoke before the Italian Parliament in Rome on 18 September 2012.
Zannier gave an overview of the OSCE’s engagement in conflict prevention and resolution in South-Eastern Europe, Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus and Central Asia. He discussed the OSCE’s work to address protracted conflict in its region, including through the Transdniestrian settlement process, the Geneva discussions addressing the consequences of the 2008 conflict in Georgia and the Minsk Group process aimed at peacefully resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The Secretary General welcomed the parliamentarians’ support for the work of the OSCE, and emphasized the importance of parliamentary engagement in conflict prevention through inter-parliamentary dialogue, Track II initiatives and activities such as election monitoring.
During his visit Zannier also met Riccardo Migliori, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (PA), and the Italian delegation to the OSCE PA.
