About
The OSCE Scholarship for Peace and Security offers a training course for young professionals, in particular women, providing a general orientation and knowledge about conflict prevention and resolution through arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation, with a specific focus on OSCE-relevant instruments.
The training course consists of two components: an online course starting on 8 April 2019 and an in-person course from 6 to 10 May 2019, which will be held in Vienna, Austria.
The training will contribute to creating equal opportunities for young professionals, in particular as concerns women’s participation in policymaking, planning and implementation processes in the area of arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation.A total of 100 scholarships are available to facilitate participation of young professionals from OSCE participating States and Partners for Co-operation. Participation to the in-person training is reserved for women.
In 2019, 80 graduates (91,25% women) from 39 OSCE pS and 8 Partners for Co-operation finished the programme successfully.

The OSCE-UNODA Scholarship for Peace and Security received the OSCE SG’s Gender Champion Award in March 2019 in recognition of the training’s focus on gender equality as a key element in conflict prevention and comprehensive security. In particular, the programme was recognized as an outstanding initiative that helped to strengthen the participation of young women in the security sector.

Graduates experience:
The training programme has made me braver. I saw that there is space for women in security […] . I have become more aware of gender-related matters and I feel more empowered to take a stand. I would like to encourage women in my country to participate in security discussions and trainings like this one, without feeling like there is no space for them.
Ilina, North Macedonia, 2019
I was used to being told it is very difficult for a woman to work in this field. Attending the training and exchanging ideas with such brilliant women really encouraged me to pursue my career prospects further. In other words, the training was a great example of what can be achieved with more women at the table.
