OSCE-supported workshop in Yerevan explores benefits of effective corporate governance
The legal regulation of corporate governance, state measures to improve corporate governance and its role in enhancing the investment environment were the topics of a workshop held on 13 December 2016 in Armenia’s capital by the Corporate Governance Center NGO with the support of the OSCE Office in Yerevan.
More than 50 participants from state agencies, local and international organizations, and representatives of the private sector participated in the event.
“The OSCE strives for improving the business environment in the country. For this the Organization emphasizes the importance of building trust through private-public dialogue,” said Matthias Lichtenberger, Economic and Environmental Programme Officer at the OSCE Office. “This workshop will be marked as another important step to increase the level of mutual trust among various stakeholders.”
Participants discussed recent trends in regulating corporate governance within the Commonwealth of Independent States. The attitudes, ethics and integrity principles of companies’ management were among the issues in focus. Participants emphasized the importance of transparency, trust, responsibility and building reliable relations with stakeholders in attracting investments, and looked at the best practices of co-operation between the state and the private sector. Representatives of private companies also shared their experiences.
Participants suggested that Armenian legal regulations regarding the corporate governance need review.
