About

In the framework of the consolidated co-operation between the two entities, the Office of the Co-ordinator of the OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities (OSCE/OCEEA) has joined the Mission in Prague of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in organizing the Summer School on Migration Studies. As an IOM initiative, the Summer School has been taking place for the last decade.

On Monday 28 August, the School will welcome 100 participants including graduate students, practitioners and officials from a wide variety of institutions. Hosted this year by the Faculty of Science of the Charles University in Prague, it aims to improve their knowledge and competencies in the field of migration governance. The OSCE/OCEEA has joined this initiative in order to provide a periodic opportunity for training and networking primarily to officials from the Field Operations. Relevant OSCE colleagues from Ashgabat, Astana, Belgrade, Bishkek and Tirana will attend the School that will offer six days of lectures, workshops, simulations and dynamic discussions regarding the fast evolving nature of migration flows, with a particular focus on the socio-economic aspects of this relevant phenomenon that is increasingly shaping the security landscape of the OSCE region and beyond.

The opening ceremony and the awareness-raising event in the framework of the United Nations’ campaign “Together towards Respect, Safety and Dignity for all” provided the opportunity to underline that well-governed migration is a powerful engine of socio-economic development for countries of origin, destination and the migrants themselves, in line with the OSCE-migration related commitments in the second dimension, reflected in the mandate and activities of the OSCE/OCEEA.
