OSCE launches project to enhance risk analysis and management capacities of Belarus’ State Border Guard Committee
MINSK, 20 December 2016 – An OSCE project to enhance the risk analysis and management capacity of the State Border Guard Committee of the Republic of Belarus was launched in Minsk today.
The risk analysis-based approach to border security and management is a widely used practice among many OSCE participating States and considered one of the most effective tools to help address the wide array of emerging threats at the border.
Today’s event brought together international and national experts in this field from Belarus, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland, and culminated with the launch of an in-house training programme on risk analysis and management, which will be integrated into the regular training courses of the Belarus’ State Border Guard Committee’s Training Institute.
“Enhancing the efficiency of the risk analysis and management system requires the establishment and systematic delivery of a unified training module to support the work of experts as well as field officers carrying out their daily work at the border,” said Andrei Konnau, Deputy Head of the Committee’s International Relations Department.
The project directly supports technical assistance being provided by other regional actors, including the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) and the International Organization on Migration (IOM).
