OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Adrian Severin to pay official visits to Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan

COPENHAGEN, 16 November 2001 (OSCE) - On 19-22 November 2001, Mr. Adrian Severin, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, will pay an official visit to Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan to acquire a deeper insight into the present situation in the region.
President Severin, who represents more than 300 Members of Parliament from 55 participating States, is scheduled to meet in Uzbekistan (19-20 November) with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Speaker of the Oliy Majlis and the Head of the Uzbek Delegation to the OSCE PA.
In Turkmenistan (22 November), President Severin will meet the Head of State, the Speaker of the Parliament and Heads of Parliamentary Committees. In both Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan the President of the OSCE PA will meet with Heads of the OSCE Centres and Centre staff, as well as meeting with representatives of civil society, NGOs, international organizations and the media.
In addition, President Severin will take a day-trip to Khudjand, Tajikistan (21 November), where he is scheduled to visit the OSCE Field Office in Khudjand and will meet the Head of the OSCE Mission to Tajikistan. President Severin will also have meetings with the Head of the Tajik Delegation to the OSCE PA, the Governor of the Province, and members of the local parliament.
