The ongoing war in Ukraine intensifies the issues surrounding human rights protection in the context of armed conflict, taking into account the principles and norms of international humanitarian law. The specifics of human rights during armed conflict or war encompass various problems faced by civilians and military personnel alike. Therefore, humanitarian principles and norms of international humanitarian law are relevant topics for school education and for teachers who focus on human rights in their curricula.
To help school educators deepen their understanding of international humanitarian law, receive answers from human rights experts to their questions, and prepare to teach specific topics on international humanitarian law to students during wartime, the Extra-budgetary OSCE Secretariat Support Programme for Ukraine, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, is organizing an advanced training on international humanitarian law for school educators. This training will take place from 7 to 9 November 2024, in one of the regional cities of Ukraine.
To participate in the competitive selection of participants, it is necessary to fill out the application form by 18 October 2024 (18:00).
Any enquiries for additional information should be sent to: andrii.matat@osce.org.
School educators with basic knowledge of international humanitarian law will be selected to participate in the training on a competitive basis. They will represent various regions of Ukraine and demonstrate a strong motivation to deepen their understanding and a readiness to use the training information to teach subjects related to the protection of human rights during wartime.
This event is part of the project "Promoting Human Rights-Based Approaches in Higher, Legal and School Education" by the Extra-budgetary OSCE Secretariat Support Programme for Ukraine implemented with extra-budgetary contributions from the Organization's participating States and partners, see the full list of Programme's donors here.
