The OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier met President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and the Mejlis Speaker Akja Nurberdyyeva on his first official visit to Ashgabat on 3 November 2011.
They discussed Turkmenistan’s contribution to OSCE activities, the current work and planned projects of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat aimed at supporting the country in implementing its OSCE commitments, and regional engagement with Afghanistan.
Zannier stressed the importance of Turkmenistan’s active contribution to the OSCE energy security dialogue. During the visit, he took part in a conference in Ashgabat on “Integrating Global Energy Markets – Providing Energy Security” organized by the OSCE Lithuanian Chairmanship.
