The German city of Bonn hosted a preparatory meeting for the Scientific Forum in Hamburg, which took place in February and March 1980.
The Forum discussed problems of common interest concerning current and future developments in science. Working groups focused on themes such as alternative energy sources, food production and medicine, as well as the humanities and social sciences, and also discussed ways to promote the exchange of information between scientific institutions and among scientists.
