SRBICA, 10 February 1999 - Yesterday, the Co-ordination Centre Srbica of the OSCE/KVM Regional Centre Mitrovica was officially inaugurated. At the moment 25 international verifiers are working at this Co-ordination Centre, which is located in the southern outskirts of Srbica.
In his opening speech the Head of Region, Mr. Leif Windmar, emphasised that a peaceful solution of the actual problems could only be achieved by active contribution of the parties involved and that the Kosovo Verification Mission was here to offer its support and help in achieving this.
The Field Director of the Co-ordination Centre, Mr. Andreas Kern, stated that all resources of this Centre would be used to fulfil the mandate of this mission and to help people as much as possible.
The installation of the OSCE Co-ordination Centre in Srbica will help to widen the OSCE Regional Centre's activities in the Mitrovica district. As a next step, Field offices will be opened in order to complement the Co-ordination Centre to cover its area of responsibility. A next Co-ordination Centre has started its operations now in Sipolje and will be formally inaugurated next week. The Co-ordination Centre Podujevo will be handed over to OSCE/KVM Regional Centre Pristina. As per today, Regional Centre Mitrovica consists of 171 verifiers including those on duty in Podujevo and Vucitrn, coming from 25 nations.
