OSCE establishes Mission to Georgia

The Committee of Senior Officials decided to open an OSCE Mission in Georgia to promote negotiations between the parties to the conflict in Georgia and to reach a peaceful political settlement.
The Mission's headquarters are located in Tbilisi, and since April 1997, there has been an office in Tskhinvali, South Ossetia.
In relation to Georgia as a whole, the Mission's mandate is to promote respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms and assist in the development of legal and democratic institutions and processes.
