Human rights should be priority for new government, OSCE Croatia mission head says
ZAGREB 9 December 2003
ZAGREB, 9 December 2003 - "The respect and promotion of international and European human rights standards is a goal the new Croatian Government will be expected to embrace," said the Head of the OSCE Mission to Croatia, Peter Semneby, today.
In a message marking tomorrow's International Human Rights Day, Ambassador Semneby said this included upholding human rights in the areas of return of refugees and displaced persons, minority rights, reform of the judiciary, rule of law, freedom of expression and police reform.
"Human Rights standards are not only related to the Mission's mandate in Croatia but are also key for Croatia's EU integration path," he said.
Ambassador Semneby also announced that a six-month report on issues covered by the OSCE Mission's mandate will be issued next week.
