OSCE expert to advise on Croatia's broadcast media laws

ZAGREB, 7 November 2002 - A leading European media expert will visit Croatia to give technical advice to the Government on aligning broadcast media laws with European standards.
Professor Karol Jakubowicz, an OSCE consultant and the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Transfrontier Television of the Council of Europe, will tomorrow begin a three-day visit to Croatia.
During his stay, he will review the new draft law on Croatian Radio and Television and provide input for new legislation on private electronic media with a view to aligning broadcast media legislation with European standards. He will meet, among others, officials from the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Telecommunications, and the Ministry of European Integration.
Prof. Jakubowicz is a leading European expert on broadcast media. He is also the Head of Strategic Planning and Development for Polish Television, an Advisor to the Chairman of the National Broadcasting Council of Poland and a member of the Digital Strategy Group of the European Broadcasting Union.
The visit has been arranged in co-operation with the Croatian Government and the OSCE Mission to Croatia and is supported by the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media.
