YEREVAN, 15 May 2001 (OSCE) - The second part of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) training programme on human rights monitoring and reporting for NGOs in Armenia will be held in Yerevan from 16 May to 20 May. The training is conducted by experts from the Polish Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights.
The first session of the training was held in March this year and focused on the theoretical and practical aspects of human rights monitoring and reporting. 16 NGO representatives from throughout Armenia took part.
The main objective of the second part of the training is to review and analyze the work performed by the participants in between the sessions, to discuss the main obstacles encountered in the monitoring process, and to find solutions to the existing problems. The training will also focus on the effective use of reports, and co-operation, information-sharing and networking between human rights activists and government bodies.
After the training, the participants will be encouraged to conduct their own monitoring projects using the principles and standards introduced during the sessions.
The OSCE Office in Yerevan was established in February 2000 to promote the implementation of OSCE principles and commitments as well as the cooperation of the Republic of Armenia within the OSCE framework, in all OSCE dimensions, including the human, political, and environmental aspects of security and stability.
