OSCE Office donates computers to community police stations in Yerevan

As part of the OSCE Office in Yerevan’s ongoing support to the community policing development 15 computers were donated on 7 August 2013 to community police stations in Yerevan.

“OSCE is committed to the principles of democratic policing and community policing is the most effective vehicle for promoting these principles,” said the Acting Head of the OSCE Strategic Police Matters Unit Marco Kubny who attended the ceremony. He commended the work of the Armenian Police in launching the community policing model in the country and said: “I am positive that its further deployment will be equally successful.”

The community policing model was launched in Yerevan in June 2012, and will be expanded to cover the provinces of Armenia by the end of 2013.The OSCE Office in Yerevan has supported the introduction of the model as part of the country’s efforts to establish democratic policing practices.

Kubny also highlighted the importance of police education and training, community policing and public order management activities in line with human rights standards and OSCE commitments.

During his meetings with the country’s high-level law-enforcement officials, including the Head of Armenian Police Headquarters, Police Major-General Vardan Yeghiazaryan, the Head of the Police Educational Complex, Police Lieutenant-General Hovhannes Varyan, Kubny reiterated the readiness of OSCE to continue co-operation with Armenia’s law-enforcement agencies, non-governmental organizations and international structures, in the implementation of police-related projects.
