Police educators in Armenia trained with OSCE support
YEREVAN, 5 June 2013 – Participants of a two-month police teacher-training course provided with the OSCE support were awarded certificates today at a graduation ceremony in Yerevan.
The course targeted teaching staff of the recently established Police Educational Complex and aimed to improve the quality of education and strengthen the capacity of those who evaluate the teaching process.
“Co-operation with the Armenian Police in the reform process has been one of the priorities of the Office. This course is an example of how the OSCE is providing practical support to promote international standards in the police service,” said Ambassador Andrey Sorokin, Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan.
The training programme was designed by an OSCE expert from the United Kingdom and was delivered from 9 April to 4 June. It included a series of interlinked courses focusing on theory and contemporary approaches in police education and training, in particular on principles and application of evaluation, learning cycles, safe learning environment, communication skills and effective feedback. The last part of the training was devoted to the use of quality assurance in the effective management of training.
Police General-Lieutenant Hovhannes Varyan, Head of the Educational Complex, said: “We find these courses on European training methods and approaches, which were organized for the faculty members of the Armenian Police Educational Complex, very important since we are confident that they will contribute to the further efficiency of the training process.”
The OSCE has been supporting the ongoing reform in police education since 2010, when the Armenian Government adopted a new concept in line with international best practice.
