Police role in prevention of human trafficking focus of meeting organized by OSCE Kyiv office

KYIV, 1 December 2006- The role of district police inspectors in the fight against human trafficking is the focus of a two-day roundtable meeting starting today in Kyiv.
During the meeting, heads of regional police departments will discuss the role of police inspectors in preventing human trafficking, and in identifying and referring trafficking victims.
"This meeting provides a forum for discussions on how district police inspectors can help prevent crime by raising awareness within communities," said Volker Frobarth, Senior Project Officer at the OSCE Project Co-ordinator's office. "It also highlights how the inspectors can identify and assist trafficking victims, and how they can support prosecution of crimes."
Experts from the OSCE's Strategic Police Matters Unit, EUROPOL, the Interior Ministry, the Ministry for Family, Youth and Sports and non-governmental organizations also are participating in the meeting, organized by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator and the Interior Ministry.
