KYIV, 7 November 2006 - Ways of further developing a transparent, free and professional media environment in Ukraine will be discussed at a meeting in Kyiv tomorrow, organized by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine and the Danish-based NGO International Media Support (IMS).
The event will be attended by the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Miklos Haraszti, representatives of the Council of Europe, the Danish Embassy, as well as the National Council of Ukraine on TV and Radio Broadcasting, the Justice Ministry, the Parliamentary Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information, the delegation of the European Commission to Ukraine, the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, and the International Renaissance Foundation.
"At the meeting, we will launch the project 'Further improvement of media legislation in Ukraine'," said Ambassador James Schumaker, the OSCE Project Co-ordinator.
"Funded by the Danish Government, it will be managed by our office and implemented together with IMS. More high-level meetings will be held in the course of the project in order to co-ordinate the pooling of resources among the relevant Ukrainian government and key international actors in the field."
