About

This side event provides an opportunity to discuss the roles that women can and are playing in organized crime groups, and how they can be better identified and targeted through gender-sensitive prevention and exit programmes. It will bring together representatives of international organizations, governments and civil society from across the OSCE area.

By sharing experiences and good practices, speakers and participants will identify and reflect upon:

  • The roles women play in organized crime groups across different criminal markets, and the link between women’s victimization and their criminal behaviour;
  • The risk factors and vulnerabilities that make women susceptible to recruitment into criminal networks and how to devise prevention programmes that effectively target and include women and girls;
  • How to design exit initiatives that respond to the particular circumstances and support needs of women;
  • The importance of collecting sex-disaggregated data on transnational organized crime.
