Press release
Spanish Chairmanship, Kosovo, Lithuania and policing focus of new issue of OSCE Magazine

VIENNA, 2 April - Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus, Spanish Foreign Minister Angel Miguel Angel Moratinos, and UN Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari share their views on "project Europe" in the April 2007 issue of the OSCE Magazine.
Serving as an overarching theme is the Organization's expanded security agenda as it went into full gear under the Spanish Chairmanship, fresh from the Ministerial Council meeting in Brussels.
Topics include the OSCE's foreseen role in Kosovo and the Lithuanian model of resolving difficult issues through good neighbourly relations and dynamic regional co-operation.
To illustrate the significance of the OSCE as a United Nations "regional arrangement", the Magazine takes a close look at how the Organization and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime work together both in Vienna and in the field.
The policing activities of the OSCE come under special scrutiny, featuring an interview with Senior Police Adviser Kevin Carty, the recently launched POLIS online information system and the first OSCE annual gathering of police chiefs, who pledged to strengthen joint action against organized crime.
In other policing-related matters, the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights writes about how law enforcers are facing up to the growing phenomenon of hate crime, and a Swedish county police commissioner shares his first-hand experience in tipping the gender scale in the upper echelons of the police force.
Published in English and Russian, the OSCE Magazine, now in its third year, can be accessed on: OSCE Magazine April 2007
