Empowering Constitutional Justice: Strengthening the Constitutional Court of Ukraine’s Role in Advancing Gender Equality, Human Rights, and Rule of Law

The Project’s objective is to enhance the operations of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine (CCU) to ensure transparent, accountable, and inclusive constitutional justice in full compliance with OSCE commitments and international human rights standards, while upholding gender equality and protecting vulnerable groups during Ukraine’s post-war recovery. Key stakeholders include the CCU judges and Secretariat staff, Ukrainian legal professionals, civil society organizations (particularly women’s and minority rights groups), law faculties, and students. The project aims to achieve the following results: 

• The CCU's capacity for constitutional adjudication and execution of its judgments with a focus on human rights and gender equality, is strengthened;
• The CCU’s operational procedures are aligned with international human rights best practices and gender equality measures;
• The CCU’s capacity to address constitutional implications of Ukraine’s EU accession as a means to align with international human rights standards and OSCE commitments, including a focus on gender equality in EU law, is enhanced;
• The knowledge and skills of CCU judges and staff on the protection of women and girls, as well as the rights of minorities and vulnerable groups are strengthened;
• The engagement of law students and young legal professionals in constitutional outreach by the CCU is enhanced.
