A comfortable room with toys and coloring books for children instead of narrow corridors in courts. A restroom with a changing table. These may look like unnecessary whims at a first glance, but the reality is that they are necessary conditions for the judicial system to hear the voice of children and protect their rights.
The current state of minors’ protection by the judiciary, challenges and possible changes will be discussed during a presentation, which will be held to mark the International Day for the Protection of Children on 1 June with the support of the Ombudsperson, the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine, the NGOs “Center for Political and Legal Reforms” and “Human Rights Vector”.
Results of the pilot monitoring, conducted in 2019, on compliance of courts and guardianship authorities with the child-friendly justice standards will be presented. You will hear about real experiences of monitors, learn about the international practices in children’s rights protection and have a chance to mingle with judges, human rights and civil society activists and other experts in this field.
The event is open for everyone. You can find online registration form here.
