OSCE Mission in Croatia begins operations

The OSCE Mission to the Republic of Croatia began its operations to assist with and to monitor the implementation of Croatian legislation and commitments made by the Croatian Government on the two-way return of all refugees and displaced persons.
The Mission's purpose is also to assist in the development of democratic institutions, processes and mechanisms. This includes a wide range of human dimension issues:
- human rights
- minority rights
- local democracy
- respect for the rule of law freedom of the media
- legislative reform
The Mission is authorized to make specific recommendations to the Croatian authorities and refer, where appropriate, urgent issues to the OSCE Permanent Council.
