OSCE establishes Mission in Kosovo

The OSCE Permanent Council decided to establish a Mission in Kosovo to take the lead role in matters relating to institution- and democracy-building, rule of law and human rights.
The new Mission replaced the transitional Task Force for Kosovo and formed a distinct component of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK). Its responsibilities include:
- training police, judicial and civil administrators
- furthering the development of civil society
- supporting media development
- organizing and supervising of elections
- monitoring, protecting and promoting human rights
Headquarters are located in Pristina and several field offices were set up by the end of 2000.
