VIENNA, 26 September 1997 - The Permanent Council of the OSCE today decided to supervise the elections for the Republika Srpska Assembly and other elections to be held in Republika Srpska at a later date.
Following are excerpts of the decision text:
"The Permanent Council... decides that the OSCE will undertake supervision of Republika Srpska Assembly Elections to be held on a date proposed by the President of Republika Srpska in consultation with the OSCE..." The Permanent Council "further decided to supervise other elections to be held in Republika Srpska at a later date in accordance with constitutional provisions, taking note of the agreement between Presidents Plavsic and Krajisnik signed in Belgrade on 24 September 1997 and looking forward to consultations with its signatories..."
This decision comes after the statement made in New York by the Foreign Ministers of France, Germany, Italy, Russian Federation, United Kingdom, United States as well as the Luxembourg EU Presidency, together with the European Commission and the High Representative.
