COPENHAGEN, 4 September 2003 - From 8-9 September, Bruce George, President of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA), will pay an official visit to Poland. During his stay, he will hold meetings with Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz and Minister of National Defence Jerzy Szmajdzinsky. President George will also hold talks with the Marshal of the Senate, Longin Pastusiak and the Marshal of the Sejm, Marek Borowski. In addition, meetings will take place with the Head and Members of the Polish Delegation to the OSCE.
Mr. George's talks in Warsaw will focus on the results of the 12th Annual Session of the OSCE PA, held last July in Rotterdam. The main theme of the Rotterdam Session was "The Role of the OSCE in the New Architecture of Europe".
On the first day of his visit, President George will also pay a working visit to the Warsaw based OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).
The Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE, created by the CSCE Summit in Paris in 1990, is the parliamentary wing of the 55-nation Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. The primary task of the 317 member Assembly is to facilitate interparliamentary dialogue, an important aspect of the overall effort to meet the challenges of democracy throughout the OSCE area.
