OSCE PA President condemns bombing in Volgograd, expresses condolences

COPENHAGEN, 22 October 2013 – OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Ranko Krivokapic today condemned a terrorist attack on a public bus in the city of Volgograd in the Russian Federation that killed six and injured more than 40 people.

"I strongly condemn the terrorist attack in Volgograd city which has led to the death and injuries of many innocent people. On behalf of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly I personally express sincere condolences to the the families of the victims, as well as to the government and people of the Russian Federation," said Krivokapic. "The OSCE must continue to take collective steps to deal with terrorism and extremism, within its comprehensive security principles – including respect for human life and human dignity."

The OSCE PA further expresses its condolences to the Parliament of Russian Federation and to the Russian Delegation in the Assembly.

The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly has just completed its Autumn Meeting in Budva, Montenegro, where discussions focused on countering terrorism and protection of human rights. Parliamentarians raised concerns over the rise of extremism, and how to counter these transnational threats while respecting rule of law and human rights.
