Guidelines for Paralegals: Ensuring Access to Justice in the Ukrainian Communities

Paralegals are people who have undergone basic training and work with professional lawyers, in particular with the free legal aid (FLA) system, on a volunteer basis. The task of a paralegal is to become the first contact for a person, to help them navigate their own situation, to conduct an initial screening of the problem, and, if necessary, to refer them to a specialist, in particular to a FLA system lawyer.
The guidelines are developed as a practical tool specifically for volunteer paralegals of the free legal system (FLA) and is designed to help them navigate their tasks, understand the scope and possibilities of their activities, and develop clear algorithms for action in typical situations.
