OSCE donates IT equipment to help Interior Ministry of Ukraine to combat cybercrime

The OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine (PCU), Ambassador Madina Jarbussynova, presented 22 sets of monitors, notebooks, and other specialized equipment to the country’s Interior Ministry on 25 October 2012.

The equipment will be used for setting up a training room in the Department for Combating Cybercrime of the Ministry of Interior, to improve their capacity in dealing with IT-related crimes.

During the ceremony, Jarbussynova highlighted that this donation is part of an OSCE project to enhance the capacity of Ukrainian institutions to address trafficking in human beings and cybercrime. She said she hoped that the equipment will help the Ukrainian partners to counter cybercrime, which represents a security challenge for the whole OSCE region.

As part of this assistance in 2012, a specialized training course on cybercrime investigation was also developed with the PCU support. Previously the PCU also supported an assessment of the Department’s training and equipment needs, conducted a roundtable meeting on international practices and technical means for cybercrime investigation, and organized a study visit to the UK.
