OSCE supports training for civil society organizations in Nakhchivan

NAKHCHIVAN, Azerbaijan, 5 September 2011 – A two-day OSCE-supported training session for non-governmental organizations in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) of Azerbaijan started today.

This event is organized by the OSCE Office in Baku in co-operation with the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights and the Justice Ministry of NAR. Around 25 local NGOs will discuss issues related to the effective exercise of the right to freedom of association, including the legal requirements for establishing NGOs and registration procedures.

International and local trainers will deliver interactive presentations using case studies and employ a train-the-trainers approach so the participants can spread the knowledge further among other NGOs.

“With this training event, we hope to enhance the capacity and ability of Nakhchivani civil society organizations to operate within the existing legal framework and in accordance with international standards and good practices,” said Natasa Rasic, the Judicial Affairs Officer at the OSCE Office in Baku.

The activity is supported as part of the 2011 training programme of the OSCE Office in Baku.
