OSCE supports raising awareness on human rights and environment for Ukrainian youth

A summer camp for children and youth to raise awareness of environmental and human-rights issues, organized by the Ukrainian Youth Association and supported by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine (PCU) was launched on August 1, 2011 in Lviv region in western Ukraine.

Around 100 young participants from all regions of Ukraine will discuss the rights and responsibilities of citizens in a society governed by the rule of law, principles of democracy, participatory decision-making, citizens’ environmental rights and basics of environmental protection.

The agenda was developed according to the needs of two age groups, namely, children and youth.

The activities on environmental protection for the summer camp training were inspired by a multimedia tool-kit also known as the Green Pack which was developed within an OSCE project to foster environmentally friendly attitudes and thinking among young people.

The two-week summer camp is the second such event for children and teenagers supported by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine within the project "Raising Public Awareness on Human Rights and Human Rights Protection Mechanisms".

The first summer camp for 40 young Ukrainians from a variety of backgrounds, social and economic situations took place last year in the Chernihiv region.
