Georgia Chairs Closing Session of OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation

The final meeting of the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation (FSC) under the Georgian Chairpersonship was held on 29 July 2026.

The main priority of the Georgian Chairpersonship was to promote dialogue for ensuring peace and security in the OSCE region, in accordance with international law and the principles of the Helsinki Final Act. In view of ongoing armed conflicts and occupations, three security dialogues were organized, stressing the importance of strengthening compliance with the OSCE Code of Conduct on Politico-Military Aspects of Security, the Impact of Armed Conflict on Women and Girls, and Conflict-related Human Rights Violations under the Code of Conduct. 

In response to current security challenges, joint meetings of the Forum for Security Co-operation and the Permanent Council were held under the co-chairpersonship of Georgia and Switzerland, addressing “Recent Aerial Attacks in the Context of the Russian Federation's Ongoing Aggression against Ukraine" and the "Violation of Romania's National Airspace on the Night of 28-29 May 2026 in the Context of the Russian Federation's Ongoing Aggression against Ukraine." 

Addressing the final session, Ambassador Archil Karaulashvili, Director of the Directorate for Security Policy, International Organisations, and Euro-Atlantic Integration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, summarised the activities carried out by the Georgian Chairpersonship, emphasizing the importance of the principles enshrined in the Helsinki Final Act.  

"For Georgia, the importance of these principles are a matter of daily reality. Russia’s continued occupation of two regions of Georgia and its illegal military presence there, in violation of the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, remain a stark reminder of the consequences of disregarding the very foundations of the Helsinki Final Act.,” 

The Chairpersonship of the Forum for Security Co-operation rotates three times a year. Georgia will chair the FSC until 4 September 2026.
