ATHENS, 10 July 2026 – OSCE Secretary General Feridun H. Sinirlioğlu participated in the 30th Annual Economist Government Roundtable, held under the theme “Progress in an Age of Upheaval”. Addressing the session “Guarding the Future: Defending Europe at Strategic Frontiers”, the Secretary General discussed the evolving European security landscape and the importance of multilateral engagement and co-operation in responding to today's complex security challenges.

In his remarks, Secretary General Sinirlioğlu emphasized that, while the current security environment is marked by heightened tensions and growing uncertainty, all states have a shared responsibility to reduce risks and contribute to a more stable and predictable security environment. He stressed that lasting stability cannot be achieved overnight, but must be built gradually through sustained dialogue, transparency and confidence-building measures.

“What we need now, more than ever, is to step back before we reach the edge of the cliff. We should begin rebuilding a security dialogue that can gradually lay the foundation of a more stable European security architecture. Above all, it remains in the interest of each and every one of us to build a more stable and predictable security environment in our geography,” said the Secretary General. He also highlighted the OSCE's unique role as the only regional security organization where all relevant security actors across the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian area come together to address the most pressing security challenges.

During his visit, Secretary General Sinirlioğlu met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, George Gerapetritis, and the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets.
