OSCE Secretary General visits Uzbekistan, highlights regional co-operation and partnership

TASHKENT, 22 May 2026 – OSCE Secretary General Feridun H. Sinirlioğlu concluded an official visit to Uzbekistan today, reaffirming the Organization’s strong commitment to co-operation with the country and strengthening dialogue across Central Asia.

During his visit to Tashkent, the Secretary General met with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bakhtiyor Saidov and First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Sodyq Safoev. Discussions focused on the OSCE’s long-standing partnership with Uzbekistan, regional security challenges and opportunities to strengthen co-operation under the OSCE’s comprehensive security agenda.

“I value Uzbekistan’s important role in fostering a pragmatic co-operation across Central Asia,” said Secretary General Sinirlioğlu. “We highly value our partnership and appreciate Uzbekistan’s engagement with the OSCE across a broad range of areas. The OSCE remains committed to supporting shared efforts to address common challenges and strengthen co-operation across the region.”

As part of his programme, the Secretary General met with representatives of civil society to discuss the important role of inclusive dialogue and civic engagement in supporting sustainable development and resilience.

The Secretary General also visited the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, where he met with staff members and discussed the Organization’s activities and co-operation with national partners. He expressed his appreciation for the dedication and professionalism of OSCE staff in advancing the Organization’s mandate and supporting co-operation with Uzbekistan.
