OSCE Secretary General visits Kyrgyzstan, reaffirms commitment to effective partnership and regional co-operation

BISHKEK, 25 March 2026 – OSCE Secretary General Feridun H. Sinirlioğlu concluded an official visit to Kyrgyzstan today, reaffirming the Organization’s strong commitment to supporting the country priorities and strengthening regional co-operation across Central Asia.
During his visit to Bishkek, the Secretary General met with President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov, Minister of Foreign Affairs Zheenbek Kulubaev and Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Marlen Mamataliev. Discussions focused on the OSCE’s enduring partnership with Kyrgyzstan, the country’s proactive role in addressing regional challenges, and opportunities to strengthen connectivity and co-operation across Central Asia.
“Kyrgyzstan is an important partner for the OSCE and plays a constructive role in fostering dialogue and co-operation in Central Asia,” said Secretary General Sinirlioğlu. “It was of paramount importance for me to travel to the region, one year after the border delimitation agreement between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and one year after the Khujand Declaration between Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. These historical diplomatic milestones of 2025 are a real-world validation of OSCE principles: sustained confidence building can turn one of the region’s most volatile fault lines into a platform for cooperation,” he added.
In his engagement with the leadership of the country, the Secretary General expressed great appreciation for the partnership and recommitted the Secretariat to continue working together to strengthen stability and sustainable development across the region.”
As part of his programme, the Secretary General visited the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, one of the Organization’s flagship projects in the region, which for more than two decades has been providing high-quality education and fostering dialogue on regional security and development.
The Secretary General also visited the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek, where he met with staff members. He commended OSCE staff for their commitment and expressed his strong appreciation for their vital work in advancing the Organization’s mandate and supporting Kyrgyzstan’s priorities.
