Representatives from Albania, Montenegro, and North Macedonia, alongside the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media (RFoM) and OSCE field presences, visited Helsinki on 15 and 16 December for a two-day study exchange focused on media literacy.

Organized under the Finnish OSCE Chairpersonship, the visit aimed to examine Finland’s comprehensive approach to media literacy, from childhood education to the role of media professionals.

Discussions addressed current challenges posed by disinformation, misinformation, and hybrid threats, with insights from Finnish government experts, educators, media actors and the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats.

One of the highlights was a visit to the upper secondary school, where students warmly welcomed the guests and showcased media literacy education within the school environment.

The visit also contributed to networking and collaboration among the participants from the region and OSCE structures. The visit was very inspiring, and participants left Helsinki with plenty of ideas to use for future endeavours in their respective organizations.
