Biography
Ambassador Christoph Späti serves as the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the South Caucasus.
Prior to his assignment, he was managing the South Caucasus and Western Balkans Programme of the Peace and Human Rights Division at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) (2018-2024), focusing mainly on Georgia and Kosovo.
He served as Deputy Head of Mission and Counsellor at the Embassy of Switzerland to Ukraine and Moldova (2014-2018) and as Deputy Head of the Crisis Management Centre and Head of Operations at the State Secretariat of the FDFA (2011-2014). Ambassador Späti joined the FDFA in 2006 as a Political Advisor to the Deputy State Secretaries. His occupation with the South Caucasus goes back to his capacity as Country Analyst for the Federal Department of Justice and Police (1999-2002).
His multilateral assignments include Political Officer to the OSCE Mission in Georgia (2008-2009), Civil Affairs Officer at the UN Observer Mission in Georgia (UNOMIG) (2005-2006), and Associate Political Affairs Officer at the Security Council Secretariat Branch of the Security Council Affairs Division (SCAD) in the Department of Political Affairs (DPA) at the UN Secretariat in New York (2003-2005).
Ambassador Späti earned his Ph.D. in History from the University of Zurich, with a focus on Eastern Europe and Swiss-Czechoslovak post-World War II relations.
