Agreement to end hostilities signed at OSCE office in Chechnya

At the headquarters of the OSCE Assistance Group in Grozny, Russian officials and Chechen representatives signed an agreement to end hostilities in Chechnya.
The military agreement consists of four basic elements:
- Immediate cessation of military hostilities
- Liberation of forcefully detained persons on the basis of the principle of "all for all"
- Gradual withdrawal of troops under the supervision of Special Observer Commission, including the unconditional disarmament of illegal armed formations
- Cessation of terrorist acts
Further negotiations on political and economic issues would continue on 3 August at the OSCE Assistance Group office in Grozny. The Assistance Group to Chechnya was established by the Permanent Council on 11 April 1995 and the closure of the Mission was completed on 21 March 2003.
