As called for in the Charter of Paris for a New Europe, representatives of CSCE participating States discussed the issues and rights of national minorities in Geneva from 1 to 19 July.
Discussions included the diversity of situations and of legal, historical, political and economic backgrounds that affect persons belonging to them. They shared practical experience with national minorities, particularly regarding national legislation, democratic institutions, international instruments and other possible forms of co-operation. The implementation of CSCE commitments and improving relevant standards was also considered.
