Judges from Ukraine and Hungary discuss judicial independence

KYIV, 30 November 2000 - A seminar for Constitutional Court Judges of Ukraine and Hungary to discuss judicial independence and methods of interpretation is taking place in Budapest on 27-30 November 2000. The seminar was organized by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine, and hosted by the Chairman of the Hungarian Court, Prof. Nemeth. The Chairman of the Ukrainian Court, Justice Skomorokha, headed the Ukrainian delegation to this seminar. The main topics discussed were "Methods of Interpretation" and "Judicial Independence".

The seminar is part of an ongoing project that aims at assisting the Constitutional Court of Ukraine in coping with challenges related to the transition process and strengthening the judiciary's ability to enforce the Constitution.
