Elections in Albania are a major step forward in the democratization and rehabilitation process. The Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE wishes, however, to express his deep concern with the latest developments in Albania. The Chairman-in-Office would like to urge President Berisha and all parties involved to cease forthwith any attempt to put obstacles in the way of the electoral process.

The Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE wishes to underline that the future international assistance to Albania will depend on the willingness of the Albanian authorities to cooperate on democratic reforms.
