About

The 2022 Scholarship for Peace and Security in-person course on conflict prevention and resolution took place from 7 to 11 November 2022. During this week, 44 young female professionals from 39 OSCE participating States and Partners for Co-operation were provided with an opportunity to deepen their knowledge on arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation in the OSCE area.

The programme included sessions dedicated to conflict cycle and practical implementation of arms control commitments in the context of OSCE-relevant instruments; as well as learning about the work of other international organizations in Vienna: the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs, IAEA, CTBTO, Wassenaar Arrangement, UNODC, UNOOSA, and others. In addition, the training course aimed to provide a better understanding of career opportunities in the security sector, empowering women and youth to meaningfully engage in the security sector, especially in politico-military field.

In the words of 2022 participants:

Ileana, Greece/United States of America: Thank you so much for the unforgettable experience in Vienna! It was one of the most enriching experiences of my life. I look forward to meeting again and to making the world a safer place.

Roqia, Afghanistan: I have become more conscious of gender-related matters, and I feel more empowered to commit myself and be supportive of women, especially in my country. I would like to encourage women to participate in discussions related to security and global peace considering that there is a space for them and how their engagement is crucial in the peace and security sector.
