Prof. Dr. Salvatore Martinez

Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office on Combating Racism, Xenophobia and Discrimination, also focusing on Intolerance and Discrimination against Christians and Members of Other Religions

Biography

Prof. Dr. Salvatore Martinez is President of the “Observatory on Religious Minorities in the World and on the Respect for Religious Freedom” under the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI).

He graduated in Paleography and Musical Philology at the University of Pavia, with a specialization on the history of the Pontiffs of the first millennium.

He regularly lectures internationally in various Universities on themes of spirituality, on the promotion of new models of intercultural leadership and on the formation of youth workers in the field of social justice.

He is a consultant and member of several national and international bodies and organizations.  He is a prolific writer with 25 books published , and some translated into English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Polish and Mandarin.

Mandate

In line with the 2004 Sofia Ministerial Council and 2002 Porto Ministerial Council Decisions on tolerance and non-discrimination, Personal Representative Martinez contributes to the overall fight of the OSCE in combating discrimination, in particular on Combating Racism, Xenophobia and Discrimination, also Focusing on Intolerance and Discrimination against Christians and Members of Other Religions and promoting tolerance, notably through monitoring activities and targeted support to participating States. Martinez was appointed by the Italian OSCE Chairmanship and advises the Chairperson-in-Office.
