The Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities (OCEEA), on the initiative of the authorities of Kazakhstan, conducted a two-day visit to the Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies under the Prosecutor General’s Office in Astana from 30 to 31 January 2017.
The OCEEA representatives held a number of bilateral meetings with high-level representatives of the Academy. They conducted a training module on preventing and combating corruption, organized by the Academy for members of the Presidential Reserve and senior representatives of law enforcement agencies.
Both sides identified areas for co-operation in 2017 and exchanged views on the implementation of joint activities, in particular the establishment of the Central Asian Regional Hub for Countering Global Threats in Astana within the Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies under Prosecutor’s General Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Hub is intended to enhance inter-agency co-operation among law enforcement officials in the Central Asian region. It will provide training courses and conduct research in the fields of combating corruption and economic crimes, cybercrimes, terrorism financing and human trafficking.
“For four decades, the OSCE has been contributing significantly to strengthening the security architecture in the world and enhancing co-operation among countries in the formulation of adequate responses to modern challenges,” said Ulan Baizhanov, Rector of the Academy, noting that the OSCE’s support to the Academy’s initiative to establish the Hub fits with the Organization’s commitment to fundamental security principles.
Andrei Muntean, Head of the Economic Governance Unit at the OCEEA, said: “The OCEEA’s expertise allows it to accumulate relevant international experience to achieve tangible results and strengthen inter-agency co-operation with due consideration of national priorities and regional security challenges.”
Muntean delivered two lectures on preventing and combating corruption for the members of the Presidential Reserve and high ranking representatives of law enforcement agencies of Kazakhstan. The advanced training courses organized by the Academy are aimed at enhancing the capacities of the law enforcement officials of the Presidential Reserve.
