A national consultation workshop organized by the OSCE Office in Yerevan and the Armenian Ministry of Economy on expanding existing foreign markets for agricultural crops produced in Armenia and identifying potential new ones was held on 21 December 2015 in Yerevan.
The workshop gathered some 40 representatives from state institutions, international and local organizations and business representatives to discuss the existing challenges and to make recommendations in achieving balance in the export-import sphere and toward building a sustainable market economy.
The OSCE Office and the Armenian Economy Ministry also highlighted the results of research by the Office to the Economic Research and Development Support Centre NGONGO
non-governmental organization on export-oriented types of domestically-produced agricultural products and potential foreign markets.
The research, which was conducted at the request of the Ministry of Economy, provides a general overview of the current situation in the agricultural sector, the production of crops and export opportunities. It also offers a detailed analysis on the documentation and other requirements related to exporting Armenian products to potential markets, such as Georgia, countries of the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union.
The study provides a number of recommendations on how Armenian farmers can more effectively plan and export their products.
The project also included organization of the discussion of the research on the existing legal framework, market opportunities and Armenia’s integration into a new economic union held on 16 December and a similar consultation organized on 15 December when a new methodology for data collection and statistical analysis of the SME Sector was introduced. Both events were organized jointly by the OSCE Office in Yerevan and the Ministry of Economy.
