Participants of OSCE-Japan conference in Tokyo share experiences in addressing emerging challenges, creating safer world

OSCE conference
Since 2000, every year one Mediterranean and one Asian partner State has hosted an OSCE conference. In 2014, such an event will be held in Tokyo on 16-17 June. It will bring together representatives of OSCE participating and Partner States. The conference will be hosted by the Government of Japan, an OSCE Asian Partner for Co-operation. The topic of the conference is Sharing Experiences and Lessons Learned Between the OSCE and Asian Partners for Co-Operation in Order to Create a Safer, More Interconnected and Fairer World in the Face of Emerging Challenges.
The three sessions of the event will touch upon aspects of co-operation between the OSCE and Asia-Pacific region, the global security environment, and of the role of women in creating a fairer world.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in Tokyo is the venue of the 2014 OSCE-Japan conference, to be held on 16-17 June 2014.
Japan has been an active Partner-State of the OSCE since 1992. Japan has since then displayed a great interest and commitment towards the OSCE, participating very actively in meetings and conferences and supporting many OSCE projects, especially in Central Asia and Afghanistan. Japan is among top contributors to the OSCE Extra-budgetary projects in 2009-2014; its contribution totals some 4.3mln EUR.

Lately, Japan has actively contributed to the OSCE efforts to find a solution of the crisis in Ukraine by supporting the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission and the National Dialogue Project in Ukraine financially and by sending staff to take part in them. Besides, Japan seconded short-term observers to the OSCE/ODIHR election observation mission for the 25 May early presidential elections in Ukraine.
