Election commissioners trained using OSCE-developed online system as Ukraine prepares for repeat vote in December

Fifty-eight district election commissioners were trained to administer electoral procedures for the upcoming repeat election in Ukraine at a session organized from 29 to 30 October 2013 in Kyiv by the country’s Central Election Commission (CEC) and the OSCE Project Co-ordinator (PCU).

This training was conducted as part of the CEC’s work in preparation for the election of members of parliament in five constituencies, where the results of the 2012 elections were unable to be confirmed. The vote is scheduled to take place on 15 December 2013.

The participants were instructed in using a web-based training resource, recently developed by the OSCE PCU, and for the first time had an opportunity to use this tool to learn about election administration issues. The training covered a range of topics; managing the district commission; forming precinct commissions; handling complaints; tabulating the voting results in the constituency; as well as other issues. The commissioners will be able to continue making use of the online resource individually as they prepare for the repeat elections.
