OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier met with the Slovenian President Borut Pahor, Prime Minister Alenka Bratušek, Defence Minister Roman Jakič and Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Bogdan Benko, during an official visit to the country on 3 October 2013. During the meetings, Zannier commended Slovenia's strong commitment to advancing regional integration in South-Eastern Europe and the OSCE region as a whole.
He also addressed the South-Eastern Europe Defence Ministerial in Brdo the same day. This year's meeting was held in the "Comprehensive Regional Ministerial" format, also encompassing two other regional events - the meeting of Western Balkans Defence Policy Directors and that of the A-5 U.S. Adriatic Charter. The two-day event started on 2 October 2013 and saw the participation of twenty-six delegations.
In his address, the Secretary General said that the motto of the Conference - "harmonisation of regional endeavours" - is highly relevant for the OSCE as the organization which, not least through the presence of its field operations, is heavily invested in South-Eastern Europe.
"Close engagement with regional initiatives such as the South-Eastern Europe Defence Ministerial process is a welcome addition to our comprehensive approach to crisis management, peace-building and security in the region."
